Halkidiki school faces complaint over monk's Halloween sermon
A mother in Halkidiki has filed a complaint following an incident at a local primary school where a monk reportedly interrupted classes across all six grades to deliver a sermon against Halloween. According to the complaint, the monk distributed leaflets regarding the holiday to students without prior notification to parents.
The parent claims the intervention caused significant distress to the children, noting that her own child suffered from nightmares and fear of death for several days following the event. The mother further alleges that the school principal permitted the unauthorized visit and religious instruction without approval from the Ministry of Education, the Institute of Educational Policy, or the local Primary Education Directorate. She characterized the incident as an attempt to turn a public school into a space for mandatory religious proselytism, asserting that the principal prioritized personal religious beliefs over public school regulations.
