Halkın Partisi leader discusses public transport reforms

Kudret Özersay, Chairman of the Halkın Partisi (HP), met with officials from the Cyprus Turkish Public Vehicle Operators Association (Kar-İş) and the Cyprus Turkish Public Transport Union (KTTTB) to discuss challenges in the public transportation sector.

Özersay proposed structural changes to the Ministry of Transport’s Permit Board and Objection Board, advocating for a legal requirement that these boards consist of experts and merit-based appointees. He emphasized the need for transparency, stating that permit decisions should be publicly disclosed with their justifications.

Additionally, Özersay called for stricter inspections and uniform regulations for all public transport, including university student buses. To assist operators in modernizing their fleets, he suggested providing customs facilities and incentives to facilitate vehicle renewal and ensure passenger safety.
