Halland authorities authorize protective wolf hunt
The County Administrative Board of Halland has authorized a two-week protective hunt for a wolf in parts of Falkenberg and Halmstad municipalities. The decision follows a series of attacks on domestic animals in the region.
On September 23, a Shetland pony in Halmstad municipality was attacked and injured. While the pony survived, DNA analysis was required to confirm the predator was a wolf. The board has documented five wolf attacks on domestic animals in Halland since October 2025.
The protective hunt is scheduled to take place between October 7 and October 21. Officials stated that the risk of further attacks is high due to the density of domestic animal herds in the area, and they determined that hunting is the most appropriate solution to prevent further serious injuries.
