In a recent interview, Berry reflected on her early struggles in New York, revealing that she once lived in a homeless shelter after her mother, Judith, declined to provide financial assistance when Berry ran out of savings. During that period, Berry worked as a waitress and a bartender to support herself while pursuing acting opportunities.

Regarding her personal life, Berry discussed her relationship with musician Van Hunt. Having been married three times previously—to David Justice, Eric Benét, and Olivier Martinez—Berry noted that she no longer feels the need for marriage to validate her relationships. However, she expressed a desire to marry Hunt, stating that among her previous partners, he is the one she feels she should marry. Berry also confirmed her engagement by displaying an engagement ring during an appearance on the Today show.
