Halle Berry Rejects Retirement Pressure as She Turns 60

Actress Halle Berry, who will celebrate her 60th birthday on August 14, said she refuses to accept the expectation that people should stop working once they reach their sixties. In a conversation on the "Making Space with Hoda Kotb" podcast, Berry explained that she feels healthier now than she did at 40 and wants to keep contributing, rejecting the idea of a "permanent vacation" after age 60.

Berry highlighted how society often treats older adults as invisible, saying, "We’re expected to find something else to do, we’re expected to be on a permanent vacation as if life is somehow over, or we no longer have value, or what we have to say isn’t significant anymore." She added that she will not allow herself to be erased, echoing remarks she made in a February interview with The Cut. The actress also referenced her upcoming film Crime 101, noting she asked the director to include a scene where her character’s boss taunts her about her age.

Berry’s comments were placed alongside similar statements from veteran actor Morgan Freeman, who at 88 also said he has no intention of retiring and encourages staying active and working.
