Halle Berry seeks to restore 50/50 custody amid abuse allegations
Halle Berry is seeking to restore a 50/50 joint custody agreement for her 13-year-old son, Maceo, following an escalating legal battle with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez. The dispute intensified after Martinez filed for sole custody and a temporary restraining order, alleging that Berry physically abused Maceo by choking him during an incident on September 26 involving a virtual reality headset.
Berry has vehemently denied these allegations, describing them as “outrageous, false, and misleading.” In court filings, she characterized the interaction as “playfully roughhousing” and stated she has timestamped video evidence to refute Martinez’s claims. Berry also accused Martinez of attempting to turn Maceo against her, noting that the teenager often returns from visits “angry and combative.”
A Los Angeles judge recently granted Martinez a temporary restraining order that modified Berry’s parenting time, though the court denied his request for sobriety testing due to insufficient information. Berry’s daughter, Nala Obri, also submitted a declaration to the court supporting her mother and denying any witnessing of physical violence. A further hearing is scheduled for October 16.
