Halle-Neustadt reopens Otfried Preußler elementary school after renovation
The Otfried Preußler elementary school in Halle-Neustadt has reopened following a two-year renovation project. The city of Halle (Saale) reported that approximately 14 million euros were invested in the renovation of the school buildings and outdoor facilities.
Improvements to the site include a new cafeteria that doubles as an assembly hall, an elevator for barrier-free access, updated technical systems, and sun protection. The outdoor areas have been redesigned to include play and climbing equipment, as well as a school garden. During the construction period, the school's more than 500 students were taught at a temporary location in the Südstadt district.
Plans are already underway for the construction of a new gymnasium. The city council previously approved the demolition of the old hall and its replacement, with work expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027 at an estimated cost of nearly seven million euros.
