Hallgrímskirkja recognized as one of the world's most beautiful buildings

Hallgrímskirkja has received numerous international accolades for its architecture and aesthetic significance. The church, designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, has been featured on several prestigious global lists.

In 2025, Time Out ranked Hallgrímskirkja as the second most beautiful building in the world, trailing only the Taj Mahal in India, and placing it at the top of all European buildings. Other recognitions include being named one of the twenty most beautiful religious buildings by Architectural Digest in 2015 and one of the ten most important meditation houses by The Guardian in 2016.

Recent rankings from 2021 to 2026 have consistently placed the church among the world's most beautiful structures, including recognition from Condé Nast Traveler and Love Exploring. Beyond its architectural status, the church serves as a national landmark, a place of worship, and a major destination for pilgrims and travelers.
