Halliburton deploys ZEUS electric fracturing system in Vaca Muerta

Halliburton is deploying its ZEUS electric fracturing system in the Vaca Muerta formation in Argentina. This deployment, part of a long-term contract with YPF, marks the first time this technology will be used internationally outside of North America.

The ZEUS system transitions hydraulic fracturing operations from traditional diesel engines to an electrical architecture. By generating power on-site, the system reduces reliance on diesel fuel and minimizes the logistical need for fuel transport trucks. The technology is capable of delivering up to 5,000 hydraulic horsepower and requires between 20 and 30 megawatts of power to operate a full fracturing spread.

Key benefits of the transition include increased energy efficiency, advanced digital automation, and reduced mechanical wear due to fewer moving parts. The shift is expected to impact operational productivity, focusing on increasing the number of fracturing stages completed per day and altering technical training requirements for the local workforce.
