Italy Guardia di Finanza seizes thousands of unsafe Halloween products

The Guardia di Finanza has conducted widespread inspections across Italy ahead of Halloween, resulting in the seizure of thousands of non-compliant products. In Reggio Calabria, over 38,000 items, including masks and costumes, were seized for lacking mandatory information regarding origin, manufacturer, and composition.

In the Teramo area, nearly 5,000 irregular items were confiscated from a retail business. Similarly, in Molise, over 7,000 products were seized in 11 different shops for failing to meet safety and consumer information standards. In Palermo, authorities seized approximately two million irregular items, including decorations and toys. Notably, some products in Carini were falsely labeled as “made in Italy” to mislead consumers.

Beyond law enforcement actions, the holiday is driving significant economic activity. While Federconsumatori reports a 9.6% increase in overall Halloween costs, with candy and chocolate prices rising by roughly 25%, the theme park sector is seeing substantial growth. Industry leaders note that Halloween events can account for up to 15% of annual revenue for amusement parks.
