Halloween film recommendations for families and streaming

As Halloween approaches, various streaming platforms and film selections offer curated content ranging from lighthearted fantasy to more intense horror suitable for families.

Disney+ provides a selection of ten titles designed to set a seasonal mood without excessive terror. Recommendations include family-friendly options such as ‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘Hocus Pocus 2’, ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, ‘Coco’, and ‘Twitches’. For older audiences or those seeking a more supernatural atmosphere, titles like ‘The Haunted Mansion’ (2023) and ‘Maleficent’ are suggested.

Other recommendations for family-oriented horror include ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘Addams Family Values’, which balance comedy with macabre themes. Classic films such as ‘Casper’ are noted for their ability to address themes of loss and acceptance, while ‘Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit’ offers a monster-movie parody suitable for all ages. ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ is also highlighted as an innocent seasonal choice.
