Halloween safety and impact on pets and neurodivergent children

As Halloween approaches, concerns regarding the consumption of sweets by pets and the impact of sugar on children are highlighted. For dogs and cats, chocolate poses a significant health risk. While white chocolate is not typically fatal, it is excessively sugary; however, dark and milk chocolate can be lethal. For a 10kg dog, a toxic dose of dark chocolate is approximately 20g, while milk chocolate requires about 100g to reach toxic levels.

Additionally, the holiday presents challenges for neurodivergent children, such as those with ADHD. High sugar intake from candies can lead to extreme overstimulation, characterized by increased hyperactivity, rapid speech, and emotional volatility, followed by physical or emotional exhaustion.
