Halloween: The Game PS5 version cancelled in Japan due to CERO rating issues

The PS5 version of 'Halloween: The Game', based on the classic horror film franchise, will not be released in Japan. Developer IllFonic announced that the game failed to obtain a rating from the Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO).

The primary reasons cited for the rating failure were the game's visceral violence and nudity. The developers stated that attempting to censor these elements to meet CERO standards would significantly damage the game's atmosphere and fail to deliver the experience players expect from the source material.

While the PS5 version is cancelled in Japan, the game is still scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Epic Games Store on September 9, 2026. Users who have already pre-ordered the PS5 version in Japan are expected to receive refunds through their respective platforms.
