Halloween traditions and local celebrations in the Czech Republic
Halloween, rooted in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, is an increasingly popular holiday celebrated on October 31. While traditionally associated with the US, it is observed in various countries including Canada, Ireland, the UK, Australia, Japan, and Sweden. Common customs include dressing in costumes, trick-or-treating, and carving pumpkins.
In the Czech Republic, several local events are organized for the season. The Bykoš pumpkin farm offers pumpkin carving from October 28 to November 1. Additionally, Čechova stodola in Buková near Příbram is hosting a program called ‘Dýňování,’ which includes a spooky trail, pumpkin carving, and seasonal food. A Halloween party is also scheduled at the House of Children and Youth (DDM) in Příbram on October 30.
