Hallstatt: Dutch hiker seriously injured in 50-meter fall

A 24-year-old Dutch national was seriously injured after falling approximately 50 meters in Hallstatt, Austria, on August 5, 2026. The individual was hiking from the Echerntal parking lot toward Wiesberghaus before attempting to descend via the unmarked Vorderer Hirlatz path.

While navigating with a mobile app, the hiker slipped on rocky terrain at an altitude of approximately 740 meters. Local mountain rescue services located the victim, who was conscious but severely injured. Due to a thunderstorm, the emergency medical helicopter from Niederöblarn experienced a 15-minute delay before it could depart. After being stabilized by rescuers, the man was airlifted to the Schärding Clinic.
