Hallstatt opens new funicular railway with double capacity
A new funicular railway in Hallstatt, Austria, opened in August 2026 following a one-year construction period. The new system replaces an older funicular built in 1980 that was demolished in 2025.
The updated railway features two carriages, each with a capacity of 60 people, doubling the previous capacity and allowing for an hourly transport rate of 1,000 passengers. The project includes a new valley station equipped with a flagship store, as well as a mountain station featuring a bistro and terrace.
