Halmar International awarded $864 million Golden Gate Bridge seismic project
Halmar International, a US subsidiary of the ASTM Group, has secured an $863.9 million contract for the final phase of the Golden Gate Bridge seismic retrofit program. The project, awarded by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, aims to enhance the structure's resilience against major earthquakes similar to the 1906 San Andreas fault event.
As the general contractor, Halmar International will perform several critical upgrades, including the seismic strengthening of the north and south towers, the replacement of roadway seismic joints, and the reinforcement of girders and lateral bracing elements. The scope also includes repainting the south tower above the roadway level and installing 28 seismic energy dissipation devices to reduce structural stress during tremors.
The project is designed to ensure the bridge can quickly resume emergency and regular traffic following a significant seismic event. Completion of the works is scheduled for September 2031.
