Halo: Campaign Evolved remake launches with early‑access period and Unreal Engine 5 overhaul
Halo Studios released a full remake of the 2001 classic Halo: Combat Evolved, titled Halo: Campaign Evolved. Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, the game features modernised graphics, updated controls, three new pre‑order missions, expanded weapons, vehicles and enemy types, and supports up to four‑player online co‑op and two‑player local split‑screen. Competitive multiplayer is omitted.
The title is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC (Steam and Microsoft Store) and will launch worldwide on 28 July 2026. Owners of the Premium or Collector’s Edition received five days of early‑access from 23 July, while all other players can pre‑load the game ahead of the global release. The launch is supported by Xbox Game Pass, cross‑play, cross‑progression and cloud‑gaming options.
Reviews highlight the faithful recreation of the original campaign, the visual fidelity of the UE5 rebuild, and the added content, though some critics note uneven graphical quality and the absence of multiplayer. Performance benchmarks show a wide range of frame‑rates on modern GPUs, with high‑end RTX 5090 achieving over 150 fps at 1080p ultra settings and mid‑range cards like RTX 3060 dropping below 40 fps.
Technical issues affected early‑access owners on Xbox and PC, with Xbox Live outages and Steam launch failures causing lock‑outs for some players. These problems were addressed by the developers after community reports.
