Halo: Campaign Evolved remake releases with physical disc but needs online download

Microsoft announced the remake Halo: Campaign Evolved for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, slated for a July 28 2026 launch. The game will ship in a standard edition that includes an actual disc, a rarity in today’s largely download‑only market.

Despite the disc, the PlayStation 5 version (and likely other platforms) requires a mandatory download of roughly 38 GB and an online account login before it can be played, as confirmed by early‑access testing. Reviewers noted that much of the game data is not stored on the disc, and an update must be installed before the first launch.

Developed with Unreal Engine 5, the remake rebuilds the original 2001 campaign, adds new mechanics such as sprinting, and introduces three new pre‑quel missions titled “Operation: METEORITE.” The physical Collector’s Edition also includes extra items for collectors.
