Halo Studios corrects PS5 split‑screen co‑op rule, removes PlayStation Plus requirement

Halo Studios’ FAQ initially stated that split‑screen local co‑op on the PlayStation 5 version of Halo: Campaign Evolved would require both players to have active PlayStation Plus subscriptions and separate Microsoft accounts. The claim sparked backlash on social media and among gaming outlets, with many criticizing the need to pay for an online service to play offline couch co‑op.

The studio later issued a clarification on its official Halo Twitter account, saying: “We incorrectly stated that PlayStation Plus is required for local co‑op splitscreen play. Local splitscreen co‑op requires a PlayStation account for each player but does not require a PlayStation Plus account.” The corrected guidance confirms that each player still needs a PlayStation account and a linked Microsoft account for cross‑play and progression, while Xbox Series X|S split‑screen requires a unique Microsoft account per player and online co‑op needs an active Xbox Game Pass subscription. Steam users must link a Microsoft account. Halo: Campaign Evolved launches on 28 July 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
