Halo Studios reportedly cancelled hybrid battle royale project

Halo Studios was reportedly developing an ambitious multiplayer title that blended battle royale and extraction shooter mechanics before its cancellation. According to reports from YouTuber HiddenXperia, citing anonymous sources affected by recent layoffs, the project underwent several iterations.

Initially known as ‘Project Tatanka’, the game was conceived as a pure battle royale featuring a massive map that merged several iconic multiplayer locations from the franchise. The concept later evolved into ‘Project Ekur’, an extraction shooter where squads would land on Zeta Halo. This version would have featured asymmetrical gameplay, allowing players to choose between UNSC Spartans and Banished Brutes while contending with the Flood.

Development was reportedly sidelined as the studio shifted focus toward a traditional multiplayer title using Unreal Engine. Ultimately, the project was cancelled to reallocate resources toward the development of a ‘Halo: Campaign Evolved’ remake. Following recent restructuring and layoffs at Halo Studios, only a small team remains dedicated to supporting existing titles.
