Halstead: Car remains embedded in listed home after driver flees
A destroyed black Seat remains embedded in the wall of a Grade II listed property in Halstead, one week after a driver crashed into the building and fled the scene. The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, at a residence on Bridge Street.
The impact caused extensive damage to the historic home, including the destruction of a corner and exposure of interior cladding. Local officials expressed concern regarding the speed of the vehicle and the potential for fatalities had pedestrians been on the footpath at the time.
Property owners have worked to find alternative accommodation for the residents affected by the crash. Police investigations into the hit-and-run incident are ongoing.
