South American livestock sectors see genetic auctions and tech trials

The livestock sectors in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay are seeing significant activity through genetic exhibitions, auctions, and technological advancements.

In Argentina, the Angus Spring Week in Cañuelas is highlighting high-quality genetics, with notable awards for establishments such as La Rubeta and Arandú. Industry leaders emphasize the need for continuous genetic evolution to maintain international competitiveness. Meanwhile, Juramento is preparing its second annual auction featuring Brangus, Braford, and Criollo horses.

In Uruguay, the Plaza Rural Angus auction has shown strong demand for replacement cattle, with a high percentage of supply being placed. Additionally, the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) has partnered with New Zealand-based Halter to test smart collar technology in Colonia. This six-month trial uses GPS and virtual fencing to manage Hereford cattle, aiming to evaluate the system's effectiveness in local production conditions.

In Paraguay, El Corral SA is launching its second annual spring breeder fair, featuring 54 bulls of Brahman, Brangus, and Nelore breeds, driven by high demand for genetics.
