Maintal transformed a former paved parking area on Bachstraße in the Wachenbuchen district into a mixed‑species meadow, planting roughly 200 native herbs and wildflowers such as oregano, sage and ox‑eye daisy. The initiative is part of the "Natural Climate Protection for Municipalities" programme, funded with €380,000 from KfW, and includes a city‑wide concept for de‑sealing public spaces, climate‑resilient planting, staff training and volunteer "flower ambassadors".

Haltern am See is preparing a new climate concept focused on preserving stable, high‑biomass forests. The town will open an online citizen‑idea platform in mid‑June, inviting residents to submit suggestions and gauge public acceptance for the forest‑preservation plan.
