Haludovo hotel complex faces decay on Krk island
The Haludovo hotel complex on the island of Krk, once a premier luxury destination in the Adriatic, is currently in a state of significant decay. Once known as the ‘Yugoslav Las Vegas’ due to its high-end amenities, including a casino and associations with international elites, the resort has transitioned from a symbol of luxury to an abandoned site.
Robert Anton Kraljić, the mayor of Malinska-Dubašnica, attributes the decline to the investor, identified as Russian-Armenian businessman Ara Abramyan. Kraljić stated that while they maintained a professional relationship, the investor appeared to have no intention of continuing hotel operations. The resort was in excellent condition when purchased in 2001, but was closed shortly thereafter despite being fully operational and profitable.
Historical records show that in 2007, spatial planning changes facilitated by the investor allowed for an increase in guest capacity from 1,200 to 2,080, which enabled the direct acquisition of building permits. Despite these administrative developments, the complex remains largely derelict.
