Haluk Levent detained in Ahbap charity probe
Turkish prosecutors have expanded an investigation into Ahbap Derneği, the charitable organization founded by singer‑activist Haluk Levent. The probe alleges that donations collected after the 2023 earthquakes were mismanaged, with large cash transfers to personal accounts, possible money‑laundering, organized‑crime activity and violations of the Association and Tax Laws. MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board) reports identified suspicious high‑value transfers, gambling‑related accounts and numerous property‑transfer transactions.
The case has led to the detention of several suspects. Courts ordered the arrest of 14‑19 individuals, including Levent, lawyer Ece Güner and other associates, while a further eleven were released under judicial control. A witness, Sevda Kurt, claims to have lost about 90 million lira after being asked for loans by Levent.
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek stressed that no organization is exempt from state oversight, reiterating that all charitable funds must be transparent and accountable. The investigation remains ongoing with further evidence being gathered.
