Hamamatsu North's Akira Kamiyahoro Sets Personal Best Ahead of National High School Track Meet
Seventeen‑year‑old Akira Kamiyahoro of Hamamatsu North High School posted a new personal best of 1:51.20 in the 800 metres at the Shizuoka prefectural championship, improving the previous record by 0.44 seconds. He qualified for the upcoming All‑Japan High School Track and Field Championships, which will be held from June 30 to July 5 at the HATO Stadium in Shiga.
Kamiyahoro, standing 165 cm tall, said he aims to win the national title now that he has secured his place. His preparation included a four‑night, five‑day national U‑19 training camp in Miyazaki, where he trained alongside peers from across the country. The championships this year have been adjusted to avoid the daytime heat, with events scheduled for the evening to reduce the risk of heat‑stroke.
Kamiyahoro’s performance and ambitions highlight the strong competition coming out of Shizuoka’s top schools as the national meet approaches.
