Hamas accused of using Nasser Hospital for interrogations
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet intelligence agency have accused Hamas of using the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis as a site for brutal interrogations and extortion. According to intelligence reports, Hamas members are allegedly operating from the second floor of the ‘Jassin’ building within the hospital complex to intimidate Palestinians and demand protection money.
Staff and patients at the facility have reportedly confirmed the presence of masked militants on the premises. The IDF stated that these actions constitute a violation of international law, which prohibits the military use of civilian facilities, and noted that the presence of militants endangers medical personnel and patients.
This development occurs amid ongoing debates regarding the governance of the Gaza Strip. While a 15-point plan proposed by the ‘Peace Council’ suggests a gradual Israeli withdrawal following the disarmament of Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the proposal. Netanyahu maintains that Hamas must be completely disarmed before any military withdrawal or reconstruction efforts begin.
