Hamas agrees to Gaza disarmament plan under Trump‑backed peace committee

A U.S.‑led peace committee chaired by former President Donald Trump announced that Hamas has accepted a framework to destroy its weapons in the Gaza Strip. The deal calls for a complete hand‑over of arms, a halt to hostilities by both sides and a transition from armed rule to civilian administration.

Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, voiced serious security concerns, saying the draft does not reflect Israel’s position and urging a pause to Israeli strikes while the agreement is implemented. U.S. envoy Nikolaj Mladenov met with Netanyahu to press for an immediate cessation of Israeli attacks.

Despite the announcement, Israel continued airstrikes that killed dozens of Palestinians, prompting Egypt, Qatar and Turkey to condemn the attacks on civilian infrastructure as violations of international humanitarian law. The agreement remains fragile as both parties assess compliance and security guarantees.
