Hamas condemns Board of Peace decision to exclude UNRWA from Gaza
Hamas has condemned the Board of Peace for its decision to exclude the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from its operations in Gaza. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem characterized the move as an alignment with Israeli positions intended to dismantle UNRWA, prevent aid delivery, and eliminate the Palestinian right of return.
The Board of Peace stated it will only collaborate with partners deemed “trusted” who can contribute to a “deradicalized Strip,” asserting that UNRWA fails to meet these criteria. While the Board did not name UNRWA as a partner during a briefing to the UN General Assembly, reports suggest some members may have been more open to working with the agency privately than their public stance indicates.
