Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya outlines ceasefire, reconstruction priorities
Khalil al‑Hayya was elected the head of Hamas’s Political Bureau after the death of Yahya Sinwar. In his first televised address he set out six priority lines for the movement.
He demanded an immediate end to Israeli military operations in Gaza and a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, calling on mediating states to pressure Israel to implement the existing cease‑fire agreement. He pledged to rebuild Gaza, accelerate humanitarian aid, prevent forced displacement and secure the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Al‑Hayya also stressed the need for Palestinian unity through a national dialogue to restore institutions such as the PLO, and to strengthen ties with Arab and Islamic countries. He urged the international community and the United Nations to protect Palestinians and hold alleged war‑crime perpetrators accountable.
