Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya arrives in Cairo for diplomatic talks

Hamas political bureau head Khalil al-Haya has arrived in Cairo for high-level discussions with Egyptian officials, including a planned meeting with intelligence chief Hassan Rasad. This visit marks al-Haya's first trip to Egypt since assuming his leadership role in late July.

The diplomatic movement occurs ahead of an upcoming visit to Israel and Egypt by Jared Kushner, an envoy for Donald Trump, and Nikolai Mladenov, a Bulgarian diplomat serving as a high representative for the U.S. Peace Council. Their mission is to promote a U.S. roadmap for the Gaza Strip.

The proposed roadmap includes the disarmament of Hamas and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli military forces from Gaza. While Hamas has expressed acceptance of the plan, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected it, asserting that 'real' disarmament of Hamas is a mandatory prerequisite for any Israeli troop withdrawal.
