Palestinian poll shows decline in Hamas support and political distrust
A new poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR) indicates a significant decline in support for Hamas and a growing distrust in the existing political leadership ahead of legislative elections scheduled for November 28.
Hamas support has dropped to 24%, down from 35% ten months ago, placing it at the same level as Fatah. This decline is most pronounced in the West Bank, where support fell from 32% to 18%, while in Gaza it decreased from 41% to 33%. Notably, the loss of support for Hamas has not resulted in a corresponding rise for Fatah.
Crucially, 44% of respondents stated that neither Hamas nor Fatah deserves to lead the Palestinian people, suggesting a desire for political alternatives. Among likely voters, Fatah holds 32% support compared to 29% for Hamas, with third parties accounting for 18%. Additionally, 60% of those surveyed believe that neither side emerged victorious in the recent war in Gaza, and 72% oppose the disarmament of Hamas prior to a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
