Hamas-linked network charged in Berlin and Vienna attack plot
German federal prosecutors have charged seven men with membership in Hamas and preparing serious violent acts against the state. The indictment alleges a coordinated plot to carry out attacks in Berlin and Vienna around the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks.
The suspects, who include German, Danish, and Bulgarian nationals, allegedly operated as foreign operatives. They were accused of procuring an arsenal that included one fully automatic rifle, 13 pistols, and over 700 rounds of ammunition. Investigators believe the group used an operations base in Turkey to manage activities and move weapons through Denmark, Germany, and Austria.
The intended targets included Israeli diplomats, Jewish community centers, and pro-Israel demonstrations. One suspect, Mohammed A., was arrested in London and is currently awaiting extradition. Another individual, Mohammad S., was reportedly an active confidential informant for the German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution during the period in question. All seven defendants remain in pretrial detention.
