Hamas suspects charged in Berlin for planned terror attacks

The German Federal Prosecutor has filed charges against seven men suspected of being members of Hamas. The group is accused of acting as foreign operatives to procure weapons and ammunition for planned terrorist attacks in Germany and Austria.

The intended attacks were reportedly scheduled to coincide with the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel. Targets allegedly included Israeli diplomats, Jewish community centers, and pro-Israel demonstrations. Investigators claim the cell was managed via an operations base in Turkey.

Authorities seized a significant cache of weapons, including an automatic assault rifle, multiple pistols, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. One suspect is currently held in the United Kingdom awaiting extradition. Notably, one of the accused, Mohammad S., was reportedly an active confidential informant for the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution at the time of the activities.
