Israeli ministers propose plan to relocate Gaza population over seven years
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has unveiled a proposal titled ‘Disengagement 710,’ which aims to facilitate the emigration of nearly two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip over a seven-year period. The plan suggests moving 250,000 people in the first year, with the goal of reaching approximately 1.86 million residents by the end of the term. The initiative reportedly includes the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Emigration and could involve Israeli funding between 10 billion and 50 billion shekels to support relocation and integration in host countries.
Defense Minister Israel Katz has also supported the concept of mass migration, stating that there is no permanent solution for Gaza without it. Katz indicated that Israel is prepared to facilitate these movements by sea and air, though he noted that the plan requires coordination and approval from the United States to secure host nations.
The proposals have drawn sharp condemnation from several regional powers. Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Muslim nations, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Türkiye, issued a joint statement rejecting the plans as a violation of international humanitarian law and a threat to Palestinian rights. Hamas has also called on the international community to take decisive action to thwart what it describes as ‘extremely dangerous plans.’ Critics and human rights advocates warn that such policies could constitute forced displacement or ethnic cleansing, which are considered war crimes under international law.
