Hambantota International Port delivers over 167,000 vehicles
Hambantota International Port (HIP) has reported the delivery of 167,569 vehicles across two reporting periods spanning from March to December 2025 and through September 2026.
Of the total volume, 86,389 vehicles were delivered between March and December 2025, consisting of 30,809 new and 55,580 used units. An additional 81,180 units were processed from January to September 2026, including 25,018 new and 56,162 used vehicles.
The Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG), which operates the facility in partnership with China Merchants Port Holdings, has been recognized by the Vehicle Importers Association of Lanka (VIAL) for its operational flexibility and support during periods of rising demand and logistical disruptions. This growth follows a recovery in Sri Lanka’s automotive import sector after previous restrictions related to the country’s foreign exchange crisis.
