Hamburg activists deflate tires of dozens of SUVs

Climate activists from the group ‘Widerstandskollektiv’ have targeted dozens of vehicles in Hamburg, primarily high-end SUVs, by deflating their tires. The actions took place between Sunday evening and Monday morning in affluent neighborhoods including Pöseldorf, Winterhude, and Rotherbaum.

In their statement of responsibility, the group described large SUVs in urban areas as ‘an imposition’ due to excessive engine power and pollutant emissions. Some vehicles were found with stickers reading ‘Stillgelegt’ (Decommissioned). The activists reportedly used small red lenses to deflate the tires rather than puncturing or cutting them.

Police have confirmed that a mid-double-digit number of vehicles were affected. The State Security department has taken over the investigation, looking into suspected property damage and dangerous interference with road traffic. Several vehicle owners have already filed criminal complaints.
