Hamburg Airport to close runway for maintenance in September
Hamburg Airport will close runway 15/33 for essential maintenance from September 9 to approximately September 23, 2026. During this two-week period, all flight operations will be redirected to runway 05/23.
This redirection means that all take-offs and landings will occur over the Niendorf and Langenhorn areas, leading to increased air traffic in those specific districts. The maintenance work is described as a necessary part of safe flight operations and includes removing rubber buildup from touchdown zones, cleaning drainage lines, renewing markings, and inspecting electrical infrastructure. Additionally, construction work will be conducted at the Alsterdorf end of the runway to renew asphalt surfaces and drainage gutters.
Project manager Martin Borstelmann stated that the closure allows for the bundling of various tasks that cannot be performed during active flight operations.
