Hamburg authorities investigate suspected wolf sightings in Klövensteen

Authorities in Hamburg are investigating multiple reports of suspected wolf sightings in the Klövensteen forest area, located near the border with Schleswig-Holstein. While the Hamburg Environmental Authority is currently evaluating image and track evidence, a definitive confirmation of the animal's identity has not yet been made.

In response to the reports, officials have issued precautionary advice for visitors to the area. Pedestrians are urged to remain calm, maintain distance, and avoid approaching, following, or feeding any wolves. Dog owners are specifically advised to keep their pets on short leashes. These measures follow an incident in late March where a wolf entered a shopping passage in Altona and injured a woman.

In a separate regional report, the Wolfenbüttel district addressed concerns regarding potential wolf activity in the Lechlumer Holz. While local hunters suggested sightings might indicate resident animals, district spokespeople stated that there are no known living packs in the area, suggesting only individual animals may be passing through.
