Hamburg-Berlin train punctuality declines after renovation

Following a major renovation project intended to improve reliability, train services between Hamburg and Berlin are experiencing increased delays. Data obtained through a parliamentary inquiry by Green Party members indicates that in the 43 days following the line's reopening in June, Deutsche Bahn recorded 3,150 delays.

In June, four out of five trains on the route were late, and in July, approximately three-quarters of services were delayed. Additionally, more than 170 trains were canceled, averaging about four cancellations per day. Deutsche Bahn attributed these issues to heatwaves, delays from preceding trains, construction-related disruptions, and remaining technical deficiencies, noting that signaling technology is not yet fully modernized.
