Hamburg building demolition leaves residents without belongings

Demolition work has begun on a residential building in the Altona district of Hamburg, Germany, following the discovery of severe structural defects. The five-story building, originally constructed in 1894, was found to have massive cracks in its load-bearing sections, posing an acute risk of collapse.

Due to the danger, residents were forced to evacuate immediately, and neighboring buildings were also cleared for safety. The demolition process has resulted in the loss of many residents' personal belongings, as they were unable to enter the building to retrieve items before heavy machinery began work. While some residents have been permitted to search the debris under safe conditions, the question of compensation for lost property remains unresolved.
