Hamburg court begins trial of man accused of leading smuggling ring

A trial has commenced at the Hamburg District Court against 29-year-old Cebrail B., who is accused of leading a professional human smuggling ring. Prosecutors allege that B., known by the nickname ‘Zaza’, operated a gang that illegally transported 212 people from Turkey to Germany via the Balkans over a four-year period.

The smuggling operation reportedly involved 38 separate transports, with some trips carrying up to 24 individuals at once. The victims were primarily Turkish and Afghan nationals, mostly men aged 20 to 30, though the group also included women and children. The gang is accused of generating approximately 800,000 euros in revenue by advertising their services on social media.

During the proceedings, Cebrail B. appeared with legal counsel and an interpreter, maintaining that he acted only as a helper rather than a primary perpetrator.
