Hamburg Court partially reverses seizure of 'Die Zeit' recordings
The Hamburg Regional Court has partially overturned its own decision regarding the seizure of audio recordings from the weekly magazine 'Die Zeit'. In the ongoing trial involving Christina Block, who is accused of orchestrating the kidnapping of her children, the court declared the seizure of recordings involving the eldest daughter to be unlawful.
The court ruled that only the audio recordings concerning the younger daughter, who is considered the primary victim, are relevant to the proceedings. Additionally, the court rescinded its order to search for potential contractual documents between the Block family and the publisher, noting it is credible that no such contracts or payments exist.
Despite these revisions, the court maintains the seizure of recordings from conversations held with the younger daughter shortly after the alleged kidnapping. The presiding judge, Isabel Hildebrandt, argued that close questioning of child witnesses by authority figures could lead to suggestive influences on their testimony, making the recordings necessary to verify statements made to the police.
Separately, the defense for Christina Block has submitted 840 pages of new evidence motions to the court as the trial nears its conclusion.
