Hamburg education groups demand review of school assistance cuts

Educational advocacy groups in Hamburg are calling for a comprehensive review of decisions regarding school assistance (Schulbegleitung) following concerns over service cuts. The Bündnis für zukunftsfähige Schulen is demanding that the Authority for School, Family and Education (BSFB) re-examine all cases of requested assistance, rather than only those where parents have filed formal objections.

Advocates argue that a limited review process creates social injustice, as families facing language barriers or complex administrative procedures may not have the resources to contest cuts. The groups note that the BSFB has previously corrected its decisions and granted support after objections were raised by both parents and school administrations, suggesting that initial assessments of support needs may have been flawed.

Additionally, the Elternkammer Hamburg has expressed concerns regarding the start of the new school year, emphasizing that inclusion requires reliability and transparency. The organization is calling for predictable support systems, early involvement of parents and schools, and functional hardship regulations to ensure that children with special needs are not disadvantaged by administrative or financial pressures.
