Hamburg Elbphilharmonie Plaza to introduce €5 entry fee

Starting October 5, the Elbphilharmonie Plaza in Hamburg will no longer be free to visit. After nearly a decade of free access, the city will implement a €5 entry fee, with a reduced rate of €3 available.

The Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (ELBG) expects a visitor decline of approximately 25% to 30%, representing a loss of about 550,000 to 660,000 spontaneous visitors annually. Despite this, officials anticipate roughly 1.5 million people will still visit the platform each year.

The Hamburg Senate expects to generate roughly €6.4 million in gross annual revenue from ticket sales. The city intends to use these funds to cover the general costs of the ELBG and to relieve the municipal cultural budget, thereby preventing potential budget cuts for other urban cultural institutions. Previously, the city paid €3.6 million annually to the operating company to maintain free access.
