Hamburger Dom: 23 passengers stranded in chain carousel
Twenty-three passengers were stranded for approximately three hours in a chain carousel known as the ‘Nordic Tower’ at the Hamburger Dom after a technical defect occurred. The ride stopped at a height of roughly 25 to 30 meters above the ground.
Emergency services, including the fire department and police, responded with a large presence to prevent panic. Firefighters used a telescopic mast vehicle to provide blankets to the passengers as temperatures dropped. The ride was eventually restarted shortly after midnight, allowing all passengers to disembark safely and without injury.
The German Showmen's Association (Deutscher Schaustellerbund) emphasized the high safety standards and rigorous inspection processes required for rides in Germany, noting that organizations like TÜV conduct extensive checks on construction, mechanics, and emergency scenarios. Authorities have announced that TÜV will investigate the incident to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
