Hamburg inaugurates new campus for Deutsch-Französisches Gymnasium
The Deutsch-Französisches Gymnasium (DFG) Hamburg has officially inaugurated its new campus at Struenseestraße in Altona. The move addresses long-standing space shortages previously experienced at the school’s former location in Lokstedt.
Hamburg invested approximately 132 million euros in the new 28,500-square-meter facility. The campus will be shared with the Struensee-Gymnasium and the Ganztagsschule an der Elbe, accommodating a total of roughly 2,200 students and 250 teachers. Facilities include two sports halls, a shared assembly hall, and a direct S-Bahn connection.
Education Senator Ksenija Bekeris noted that the relocation is a result of the school's sustained growth. The DFG, which evolved from the former private Lycée Français, is the third German-French gymnasium in Germany and the only one located north of the Main river. The site holds significant historical value, having hosted institutions such as the Friedrichschule since 1725.
