Hamburg International Queer Film Festival announces 2026 dates

The 37th Hamburg International Queer Film Festival (HIQFF) is scheduled to take place from October 13 to 18, 2026. Operating under the theme ‘Remember & Resist’, the festival will focus on queer cultural memory and resistance in response to budget cuts, declining support for democratic projects, and rising hostility toward LGBTQ+ individuals.

The event will feature feature films, documentaries, and short films across several cinemas in Hamburg, including Metropolis, Passage, 3001, B-Movie, and Rineuto. Notable programming includes the German premiere of ‘Miss Carbón’, a film inspired by the true story of Carla ‘Carlita’ Rodríguez, the first woman to work in an Argentine coal mine.

Additionally, the festival will host an educational program titled ‘HIQFF@school – Queer Education’ on October 14 and 15, offering age-appropriate screenings for Hamburg school classes on topics such as identity, diversity, and puberty.
