Hamburg Metropolitan Region renewable energy sector reaches 31,000 jobs

A study by the Cluster Erneuerbare Energien Hamburg (EEHH) reveals that the renewable energy sector has become a major economic and innovation driver in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. According to conservative estimates, the industry currently accounts for approximately 31,000 jobs and 5.3 billion euros in gross value added.

Between 2010 and 2025, the sector experienced an annual growth rate in gross value added of over 11 percent. Wind energy represents the largest sub-sector, employing roughly 13,000 people. The study also highlights significant momentum in intelligent energy systems, solar and bioenergy, and a growing startup landscape.

Regarding the future of the hydrogen economy, the region is well-positioned with approximately 50 projects aimed at supplying climate-neutral energy to industries such as shipping, aviation, and logistics. Hamburg's Economic Senator, Melanie Leonhard, noted that the energy transition has long been a vital economic factor for the region.
