German teen arrested for suspected murder of Indiana girl

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Hamburg, Germany, on suspicion of murder and grievous bodily harm in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Prosecutors allege the suspect, who was 17 at the time of the offenses, used the social platform Discord to manipulate the psychologically vulnerable victim between September and October. Investigators claim he pressured the girl to engage in self-harm, including cutting herself and writing letters in her own blood, and demanded video recordings of these acts.

The victim died by hanging on October 2. Authorities state the suspect allegedly attempted to obtain footage of the death and threatened to release the girl's personal data and compromising images to her social circle to exert pressure.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI, the Fort Wayne Police Department, and German authorities. Prosecutors believe the suspect was attempting to gain status within an online group known as ‘Nefarious Maniac Kult’ (NMK), which is linked to nihilistic extremist networks such as ‘764’ or ‘COM’ that encourage self-harm and violence.
